The Magswitch Smart Tool E30 is an electrically switchable permanent magnet gripper for automation – with infinitely adjustable magnetic force and CANopen connectivity. It is ideal for destacking, separating, and handling ferromagnetic sheet metal.
A short power pulse is sufficient to switch the magnetic force; it is held purely magnetically thereafter, without continuous current flow. This makes the E30 energy-efficient and inherently safe: in the event of a power failure or emergency stop, the component remains reliably held (fail-safe). In addition, there is no need for a complete compressed air supply, including valves and hoses, which pneumatic magnet grippers require – fewer components, fewer sources of error, and faster commissioning.
The core of the Smart Tool is VFO technology (Variable Field Output): the magnetic strength is adjustable between 0 and 100%, in 1% increments via CANopen. This allows both thin and thick sheets of different sizes and material types to be handled securely – and individual sheets to be separated from a stack in a targeted manner. Integrated sensors provide feedback on magnet status, contact quality, and part presence; up to four calibration sets can be saved and switched during operation using standard or auto-calibration procedures.

Stated forces were determined in a laboratory environment on 2" thick SAE1018 steel (surface roughness 63 µin) and do not represent a safe working load. Magswitch recommends a safety factor of SWL = 5:1 for most applications. Values may vary by ±5 %.
